Summer deep cleaning...the fridge!

The refrigerator is one of the most important household appliances in your home. It is constantly working to keep your food fresh and free of bacteria, so we recommend cleaning it regularly for optimal performance.

Clean fridge

These general recommendations will help you to have a base but you should always read the manufacturer's instructions regarding the water temperature, type of detergent and cleaning utensils to use.

Every day we should check to see if something has been spilled to clean it up as soon as possible before it sticks to surfaces and reaches other foods. It is also important to review the products we have and the state they are in.

Once a week it is recommended to remove the dust from the surface of the refrigerator, with a clean microfiber cloth from the top down, and do not forget the handles, you will probably find some stain or residue on them.

Deep cleaning

We recommend that you thoroughly clean your refrigerator once every 3 months, the time may vary depending on the level of accumulated dirt..

Before you start, check to see if you should unplug your refrigerator to clean it or if it has another energy management system.

Step 1

Empty your refrigerator, ideally you should carry out this cleaning when your refrigerator has little food inside, otherwise you can use a portable cooler for delicate foods that need constant refrigeration such as meat.

Step 2

Carefully remove glass shelves and crisper drawers, before cleaning, let them stand until they reach room temperature to avoid cracking.

Step 3

Add mild, diluted detergent directly to a damp cloth, do not spray inside the refrigerator.

Clean the inside of the fridge starting from the top to avoid dripping on surfaces that are already clean. Rinse with a damp cloth and pat dry with a clean towel. For residues or stains that are difficult to remove, you can apply a small amount of baking soda + water + mild detergent, leave it to work for 15 minutes to soften the surface, and then remove it with a cloth.

Step 4

Apply detergent diluted in water on the removable shelves and bins and let them soak for about 5 minutes. Clean the surfaces with a cloth or a non-abrasive sponge and then rinse with plenty of water to remove the detergent, dry them thoroughly and put them back in the refrigerator. Attention! Do not put  shelves or bins in the dishwasher.

Step 5

Put the food back into the refrigerator, if they are packaged items, you can clean them with a cloth before putting them back on.

Step 6

The rubber gaskets may have accumulated residue since the last cleaning, wipe them with the same cloth with diluted detergent and then dry them with an absorbent towel. Verify that the rubbers are placed correctly so that they continue to seal the door and no energy is lost.

Step 7

Vacuum the Refrigerator Coils, This step is very important and delicate, so you must follow the manufacturer's instructions!

Unplug the refrigerator and move it away from the wall carefully and slowly. If your fridge has coils on the back of the refrigerator, use the brush attachment to vacuum the coils. Put the refrigerator back when done and plug it back in.

And that's it!...Nothing better than a clean refrigerator to receive the flavors of summer!
