Parts of machines and appliances are naturally subject to wear and tear. Appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers and hoovers are often fairly easy to repair, and parts should be available for a long time.
That sounds quite obvious, and you would assume that it’s stated by law. Especially in times where we are experiencing many problems with energy and the environment.
So how long should parts be legally available?
By law, parts for refrigeration appliances must remain available for 7 years after purchase. Parts for household (dish) washing machines and dryers should remain available for 10 years. But what is the starting point? The production date of the appliance, or the moment you purchase it?
It’s safe to say that parts of appliances are still available for 7 to 10 years from production date. Makes sense, but what about appliances that some companies are putting on a massive sale with huge discounts? These appliances are probably bought in bulk from the manufacturer because they haven't been produced in a long time. If you buy an appliance that has actually been out of production for 4 years, you may find that parts aren’t available after you’ve owned the appliance for 6 years. Fortunately, Fiyo has a large inventory and we sell various parts of appliances that have been out of production for many years.
How do I check if certain parts are available?
You need the type number of your appliance to be able to find the right spare parts. his number often consists of a series of numbers or a combination of letters and numbers. The location of the type sticker or plate varies per appliance. Sometimes they can be found in a hidden place, out of plain sight. With many appliances, you can find the type number on the inside or side of the door or on the back of the appliance. Once you have found the type number, you can enter it in our search bar to find the right part.
The objective is to make appliances not only more energy efficient, but also easier to repair by yourself. Therefore, it is important that spare parts are available for a long time. Sadly, it often turns out that parts are only available to (professional) repair companies or brands that keep parts sales completely in-house. We believe that it would be much better for consumers to be able to repair appliances independently!
